EPISODE 217
Don’t Sleep On Narcolepsy with Kendra McGregor
Episode Notes
Summary
Joe is chatting with traumatic brain injury survivor, Kendra McGregor. Going into this episode, Joe thought it was going to be pretty nerdy since Kendra is a cosplayer, but this ended up being a super informational episode all about how Kendra manages narcolepsy and shares facts and tips all about the condition.
They also chat about their shared passion for befriending and connecting with nerdy strangers online. And Kendra shares a touching story of how she made a dying woman’s last wish come true to see an unreleased episode of Game of Thrones.

About the Guest
I asked my husband and he said: Two words describe Kendra: Leroy Jenkins. She is the person that will dive headfirst into a crowd while gaming and melee the sh*t out of everyone, all without a melee build. She’ll kick their asses and then come back and revive me.
In real life, Kendra is the face of resiliency. Should Persian arrows blot out the sun, Kendra is the one to loudly proclaim that she would fight in the shade. Yes, that reference is more than a decade old, it’s called a classic, nerd!
No one lives life louder than Kendra Malizia, and I mean that in a good way. Or do? I mean it however you read that. To the neighbors across the street (and up the hill), she is the one who sings her own versions of tv theme songs with the gusto of a dozen sailors returning home after years at sea. To the four-legged angels that call her “Mummaz,” her call ushers in the sweet sweet charms of dinnertime. To her husband, it signals an amazing roll of victory in YAHTZEE! To ALL OTHERS…doom.
💡Fun Fact:
I’m a Narcoleptic artist and huge nerd. absolutely obsessed with my husband and 3 dogs. I’ve traveled to many countries, lived in third world countries doing humanitarian work. Did AmeriCorps with inner city work. I was the death manager of RI. I’ve been on Say Yes to the Dress. Was crippled in a car accident. I’m friends with AGOT and Harry Potter actors from the time I did the AGOT thing for a hospice patient – I used to volunteer for Make-a-Wish and spent my whole adult life dedicated to working and volunteering for charities. I cosplay-lite. I am a data analyst somehow.. Got married in Switzerland to a total babe.
🤓Nerdom:
OMG everything. Books, comics/graphic novels, gaming, movies, food, wine, true crime
